Rowantree Cottage Guide

Welcome to Rowantree Cottage.

We spent several years looking for home in Scotland and finally found this special place, Mellon Charles where we built our own Boom House. More recently We decided to buy and renovate this lovely old croft. It has taken a while but we think the wait was worth it and hope you do too.

We would be very grateful if you could read this guide  which will hopefully answer any questions you have about the House.

We hope you don’t but if you have any problems please contact Lora, who lives locally on 07508 363338. Unless in an emergency, please only contact her between 9am and 5 pm. Most of your questions can hopefully be answered by this guide or elsewhere on the website.

Internet

The code for internet access is: wgvGP9krunR6. There is a note of this code under the TV.

Fire Safety

There is a fire blanket on the wall in the kitchen.

There is a fire extinguisher near the washing machine in the Store Room by the front door.

Small Steps

There we one or two small steps between rooms at slightly different levels. Please take care not to trip.

Heating and Hot Water

Rowantree Cottage has been design to be as “green” as we could practically make it or a renovated House. Underfloor heating and hot water are provided from an air source heat pump for the whole House.

A feature of this system is that it provides steady heat to the House up to about 21C or 22C. It will not however heat the House quickly. Each room has a thermostat which is set at about 21C and on a timer system so you should be warm. Adjusting the thermostats is however tricky and may cause problems with the heating so we have set the thermostats so that they cannot be adjusted.

If you want to warm the House quickly then we suggest you light the wood burner which will heat the living room and kitchen.

Wood Burner

We have provided you with a supply of wood for the wood burner. There is more wood in bags in the Store Room and there is a charge of £5 per additional bag used. Please leave the cash when you go or we can deduct it from your deposit.

Dogs

Please note that dogs are not allowed in the bedrooms or on the furniture. Also, please do not leave dogs in the House on their own.

Please pick up your dog’s poo. Other guests and children after you will be using the garden.

We love dogs but not everyone does so we would be very grateful if you could respect these rules.

Kitchen

There are instructions for some of the appliances elsewhere on this website.

TV

The smart TV has access to Netflix and other similar entertainment suppliers.

Refuse

The refuse men come on a Monday. Highlands Council collect normal and recyclable waste separately on alternate weeks so we would be grateful if you could separate your rubbish accordingly into the two bins provided in the kitchen. The bin in the kitchen for recyclable waste has a list of recyclable items on the top and this list is also on this website. Please do not put glass in either bin. There is a glass recycle bin in Aultbea. The outside bins are by the road. The blue bin is for recyclable waste and green for other waste. Please put all your waste and in the correct bin by the road when you leave.

Garden

There is a very small natural pool on the far side of the large rock.

Please be careful around the old barn. Its is our next project to restore it. The stone wall beside the barn is unstable so please dont climb on it!

Geoff who looks after the garden may do some work from time to time but he will take care not to disturb you.

Bad Weather

The House is very exposed in bad weather and in high winds please take great care when opening House and car doors.
